The benefits of meditation

There are many benefits to meditation, but much more research is needed to be done on this practice. I'll just name a few.

Meditation simply is an active practice of calming the mind, more of altering the state of consciousness. By practicing meditation, it may have lasting effects on the mind. Physically, it bring about relaxation and releases stress. It decreases the intensity of pain and better performance of physical activities of anything. While meditating, more blood flows to the area of the frontal lobes and thalamus. Also with people who practice long term meditation, they had more thickness in prefontal cortex than non-meditators and they felt less pain. There an increases dopamine levels in the brain which is associated with pleasure. Meditation can increase mental health, social openness, and self-esteem. Your  verbal creativity will increase too. Mentally, during the process of Meditation, there an observation of your thoughts; which will make you more aware of the now and not on the future or past. This will help increase your concentration and focus. Emotionally, there's time to observe thoughts and most importantly confront those feelings or deep down feelings we have. Lastly spiritually, you will have a good understanding of yourself and those around you. But what surprised me was that fact that this practice has anti-aging effect, this comes from the adrenal glands that produce less adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol, these have negative effects on aging. Overall, I feel like when you do practice meditation, you'll receive a greater understanding of something bigger than yourself. This understanding will make you pursue more, do more, take on the world, and block out your perception of what negativity is.
