Mindfulness Meditation Lowers Blood Pressure

...

From the University of Virginia and Emory University, research has indicated that a few minutes of mindfullness meditation a day can significantly reduce high blood pressure among African Americans.

Therefore, within the research/study conducted; 15 men with high blood pressure plus chronic kidney disease (which was a crossover study) were tested. So it was 14 minutes of mindfulness meditation compared with 14 minutes of blood pressure education, during two different treament periods.

After the results were finished, the practice of mindfulness meditation reduced SYSTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE (Systolic = the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats [when the heart muscle contracts]) AND DIASTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE (measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood).
